The official Download Festival website has announced that Download has won the 'best festival of 2009' poll that took place on radio station Planet Rock.

Listeners were invited to vote for their favourite festival, and when the lines were closed, Download Festival 2009 came out on top!

"Any festival that is good enough to put Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Journey, ZZ Top and Dream Theater onto the same stage on the same day is doing something right," said the radio station.

The official website also commented on the news:

"Thanks a lot if you voted for us" they said. "we’ll be gunning for a hat trick in 2010 – we’re not gonna let you down"!

Exciting news! Download Festival bagged 'Event of the Year' at this years Classic Rock Awards.

Andy Copping went up to accept the award, and found himself in front of the Rockerati, which included members of Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, The Who, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden amongst many others.

The director of Download Festival, John Probyn said a massive thank you to "everyone who contributed towards the staging of this fantastic event and the recognition they have obtained through this prestigious award."
